Quarry House Care Home
A coffee morning was held at Quarry House on Monday 23rd September in support of the Macmillan “World’s Biggest Coffee Morning”. Contributions from staff and family members were very much appreciated.
A big thank you to all the staff who contributed food produce for the Quarry Harvest festival service. St. Mary’s Church attended and all food contributions will be distributed within the wider community.
Congratulations to Danielle F. on her in-house promotion to a full-time senior carer on nights.
Congrats to Rowen C., bank carer, for successfully completing her Care Certificate.
Shelley & Marcia have warmed up their voices in preparation for the first Singing for the Brain Session.
Akua, our long-serving housekeeper, attended the ALIVE workshop in August and is now an ALIVE champion. Akua thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and the feedback she shared with her line manager that the workshop had been extremely beneficial and now has the increased skills to enable her to enhance her interactions with the residents.
Quarry Staff attended the prestigious 2024 Annual Care Awards and proudly celebrated Sarah, who won the ‘Frontline Nursing Award’. Sarah’s commitment to going above and beyond, coupled with her outstanding skills and leadership within her team, has earned her this well-deserved recognition. Congratulations, Sarah – your excellence makes us all proud
We also honoured our amazing finalists: Marcia (Social Engagement and Wellbeing Manager), Janice and Sam (Activities & Wellbeing Team).
Their exceptional efforts in enriching the lives of our residents and consistently going the extra mile have made a lasting impact.
A big thank you to everyone who took the time to submit nominations, and to all the staff at Bristol Care Homes for their ongoing dedication.
Field House Care Home
Field House had a very busy month for both residents and staff at Field House.
Two residents went to the harbourside to enjoy the last of the summer weather. After a lovely walk in the sunshine, they enjoyed a hearty lunch.
Residents also visited Bristol Botanical Gardens for the first time. Despite the weather being autumnal there were still lots of flowers to enjoy, as well as two lovely ponds and greenhouses full of tropical plants. The stand-out feature was the Guangzhou Gold medal-winning garden. It was crowned ‘Best in Show’ at the 2021 RHS Chelsea Flower Show for leading the way in environmental sustainability. It was gifted to Bristol on 1 May 2024, after being rebuilt, as the city has been twinned with Guangzhou since 2001.
Residents were also delighted by the bedside performances of violinist Laurence, who filled the air with a selection of cherished classical melodies.
On another day, residents explored their five senses through a range of engaging activities. Jeremy and Marcia wheeled a wine and cheese trolley throughout the home, fulfilling a request from a recent residents’ committee meeting.
Residents sampled a variety of cheeses, ranging from strong and mild to spicy and sweet, paired with rosé, red, or white wines.
June humorously stated one of the stronger cheeses to “smelly, sweaty socks.” The residents’ favourite, however, was the goat cheese, which received the most votes.
Residents were treated to lively entertainment by the talented Phil, who Marcia describes as resembling Dick Van Dyke in *Mary Poppins* because of the tambourines strapped to his ankles as he plays the guitar. His energetic, feel-good performance never fails to lift the room, and everyone enjoyed his fun, engaging music.
Beech House Care Home
Plenty of activities were enjoyed at Beech House this month.
Louisa brought indoors the beauty of nature through engaging and exciting sessions.
As residents read a poem about trees, they were able to hold branches of leaves of different kinds and immerse themselves in the poetry. It’s special afternoons like these that lift the spirits and everyone was smiling and remembering autumn days. Thanks, Louisa.
We extend a warm welcome to Zoe, our new activities coordinator at Beech House. With a strong musical background as a former music teacher, Zoe’s talent is already lighting up the home, and the residents are absolutely loving her.
Zoe is skilled in several instruments, including the ukulele, which was fantastic news for resident Margaret, who has been playing the instrument for years and still takes lessons every Thursday. Zoe and Margaret treated everyone to a beautiful duet as residents sang along, creating a truly magical moment.
In fact, Beech House has had plenty of these heartwarming moments lately. Ian, a resident with a passion for motorbikes, had a wonderful visit from Jess’s partner, who shares his love for motorcycles. The two bonded over photos and shared stories, bringing smiles all around.
And to top off the month, the residents kicked off their Saturday evening with wine, Baileys, and jelly babies, all while enjoying Strictly Come Dancing on the big screen.
Glebe House Care Home
This month, Glebe House was filled with fun and enjoyable activities.
The residents enjoyed a crisp-tasting session, sampling a variety of flavours and textures, something we can all indulge in from time to time. This activity encouraged choice, stimulated the senses, and sparked fond memories.
Recent trips included a visit to Highfield Garden Centre, a favourite destination among the residents, and another outing to Clevedon for a scenic walk along the seafront, followed by a stop at The Salt House Pub.
Despite the weather, the residents came well-prepared, ensuring a wonderful time was had by all.
A wonderful afternoon with cheese, wine, and beautiful piano music, all thanks to our talented relative, Rosie, took place on another day!
The residents truly enjoyed an amazing variety of pieces, from movie themes to common tunes, and even some classical ballet music. It was such a heartwarming experience, as everyone was encouraged to feel the music, whether through tapping along, playing instruments, swaying scarves, whistling, or singing.
It was a wholesome, joyful moment, and we’re extremely grateful for this unforgettable experience.
Review Of The Month – Glebe House
My wife has been a resident at Glebe House for some three and a half years, suffering from dementia. The care she has received, both in the dementia unit and upstairs, has been exemplary.
Management of the home are always ‘on the ball’ and care deeply for the residents and their own staff, who respond by being always kind and welcoming and ready to respond to any matters that may be eased.
I recommend most highly this care home.
Anthony M (Husband of Resident)
