Deputy Home Manager Kerry Walks Through January for Dementia UK
We are delighted to share a truly inspiring initiative from our Deputy Home Manager, Kerry, who walked every day throughout January to raise money for Dementia UK.
This charity is especially close to Kerry’s heart — both personally and professionally — and we are incredibly proud to support her as she takes on this meaningful challenge. Dementia UK provides specialist dementia nurses who offer vital guidance and compassionate support to families across the country, making this a cause that touches many of us here at Beech House.
A Heartfelt Farewell to Chris at Beech House
The Beech House community gathered to honour and celebrate Chris, who is retiring after an extraordinary 24 years of dedicated service. It was a truly emotional moment for residents, staff, and colleagues who have worked alongside her for many years.
The farewell gathering was made even more special with the presence of Geoff, Chairman, and Rich, CEO of Bristol Care Homes, who attended to personally thank Chris for her remarkable commitment, compassion, and the positive impact she has made within the home.
Over her 24 years at Beech House, Chris has touched countless lives with her kindness, patience, and unwavering dedication to the residents she cared for. Her presence has been a source of comfort, stability, and joy — and she will be greatly missed by everyone.
A Heartfelt Creation for Our Nurses’ Station
Following the gardening session, our residents came together for a special project — a handcrafted piece for our nurses’ station.
Led by our talented resident Jean, everyone contributed to making a beautiful display as a heartfelt thank you to the staff who care for them each day. This thoughtful gesture reflects the warm relationships and sense of community that make Beech House such a special place.
The finished piece now sits proudly at the nurses’ station, bringing smiles to staff and residents alike.
A Blooming Lovely Visit from Thornbury in Bloom at Beech House
Beech House residents and staff welcomed members of the Thornbury in Bloom team to Beech House for a very special gardening club session. Their visit brought wonderful insight into the planning, care, and dedication that goes into their beautiful planting schemes across Thornbury — work that brightens the community for everyone.
Despite a few light showers, the team enjoyed a cheerful tour of our garden and were full of praise for our lovely green space. Their kind compliments meant a great deal to our residents and staff, who take pride in helping to nurture and care for our garden throughout the year.
To finish the session, residents and staff hung apple feeders in the garden, a simple but thoughtful way to support our local birds and bring even more life to our outdoor space.
Congratulations to Christiana and Ali!
Christiana and Ali have successfully completed their Care Certificates, marking an important milestone in their careers within health and social care.
Their commitment, compassion, and hard work shine through every day in the support they provide to our residents, and we couldn’t be prouder of them.
To make the occasion even more special, our CEO, Rich Crocker, visited the home to personally congratulate them. Richard expressed his appreciation for their enthusiasm, reliability, and the positive impact they make within the Glebe House community.
We are equally thrilled to announce that both Christiana and Ali are already progressing onto their NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care — a fantastic next step that reflects their motivation to continue learning and growing in their roles.
A Special Horse Visit to Glebe House!
Residents and staff at Glebe House enjoyed a wonderful festive surprise when Victoria and her friends arrived on horseback to spread some festive cheer!
The beautiful horses — Pache, Ruby, and Fleur — looked absolutely charming in their fun holiday outfits, instantly bringing smiles and joy throughout the home. Ridden by Victoria, Jess, and Lola, the horses created a magical moment for everyone, especially our residents who loved seeing (and stroking!) the gentle visitors.
This visit was made even more meaningful because Victoria is the daughter of our carer Sue — a true family moment that touched all of our hearts.
A Wonderful Intergenerational Morning at Glebe House
We were delighted to welcome pupils from Almondsbury Primary School for a very special intergenerational visit. The children arrived with bright smiles and beautiful voices, filling our home with joy as they sang a selection of songs for our residents.
The highlight of the morning was a collaborative craft activity led by our lovely Bev. Together with the children and residents, she created a unique greeting card using the residents’ handprints — a simple but meaningful piece of art that symbolised connection across generations. The teachers were truly touched by this thoughtful activity and praised the creativity and togetherness it fostered.
To make the visit even more memorable, each child received a small gift of sweets, kindly handed out by our Manager, Natalia. The children were thrilled, and the residents enjoyed sharing this moment with them.
Glebe House Welcomes Tockington Manor Pupils for a Joyful Intergenerational Craft Day
We were thrilled to welcome pupils from Tockington Manor School as part of our expanding intergenerational programme. Their visit brought warmth, energy, and lots of smiles to Glebe House, creating a wonderful atmosphere for everyone involved.
The children joined our residents for an interactive craft workshop, sitting together to design colourful creations while sharing stories, laughter, and thoughtful conversations. Watching residents guide the young visitors and bond so naturally was truly heart‑warming.
Celebrating 10 Years of Staff Dedication at Quarry House
Quarry House recently held a wonderful celebration to honour an incredible milestone — 10 years of dedicated service from several valued team members.
On January 16th, residents, staff, and visitors gathered for a joyful afternoon filled with live entertainment from Justin, delicious refreshments, and warm words of appreciation from our management team.
The highlight of the day was the presentation of the 10‑Year Service Awards to five outstanding staff members:
John – Daniel – Connie – Stacey – Joy
Each award recognised a full decade of commitment, compassion, and hard work — qualities that make a lasting difference to the lives of our residents and the heart of Quarry House. Their dedication embodies what care truly means, and we are incredibly proud of everything they have contributed over the past ten years.
World Hello Day at Quarry House!
Residents and staff at Quarry House came together to celebrate World Hello Day with creativity, conversation, and plenty of smiles.
To mark the occasion, everyone took part in a fun challenge: creating unique quotes using only the letters from the word “hello.” The results were imaginative, uplifting, and sparked brilliant discussions as residents shared their ideas.
We also explored how to say hello in different languages from around the world – from hola and bonjour to namaste and ciao. This simple activity led to meaningful chats, happy memories, and lots of laughter throughout the home.
A Year of Kindness, Wishes & Hope at Quarry House
At Quarry House, small acts of kindness and shared creativity have blossomed into something truly beautiful over the past few months.
To celebrate World Kindness Day, residents and staff came together to create our very own Kindness Tree — a vibrant display filled with handwritten messages, kind thoughts, and uplifting words from our Quarry House family. Each leaf represented a simple act of kindness or a positive message, reminding us all of the power of compassion.
Residents added their hopes, memories, and festive wishes, creating a colourful and heartfelt centrepiece that brought joy to everyone who passed by. It became a lovely way for residents and staff to share the spirit of the season together.
It’s a wonderful reminder that new beginnings are for everyone, no matter our age.
This evolving tree has become more than just a display — it’s a symbol of our community, our togetherness, and the kindness that runs through Quarry House.
A Magical Evening at the Quarry House Variety Show!
Quarry House residents and staff came together to perform in our Variety Show!
The atmosphere was full of festive cheer, laughter, and community spirit as the room came alive with comedy sketches, jokes, singing, dancing, and joyful performances from our wonderful Quarry House family. The energy in the room was truly electric — every act was met with warm applause and plenty of smiles.
One of the most meaningful moments of the evening was a special tribute to the late June Donovan, a much‑loved resident who played a key role in planning and presenting our shows over the years. Her creativity, humour, and dedication helped shape these celebrations, and it felt very special to honour her memory together.
Field House Set to Launch Exciting New Community Initiatives
Field House is proud to announce the development of a brand‑new Community Initiative Programme, designed to strengthen local connections and create meaningful opportunities for engagement with organisations across the area.
The first planning meeting took place recently, bringing together the Marketing Team, Marcia – Well-being & Community Manager, and the Activities Team. The session was energetic and productive, with a wide range of creative ideas discussed on how Field House can play a stronger role in supporting the wider community.
Following this meeting, the team collaborated closely with Home Managers to gather insights, priorities, and suggestions. Together, they compiled and carefully reviewed potential community partnerships. After thoughtful discussion, the group successfully shortlisted 25 local organisations that align with Field House’s values and vision for meaningful community involvement.
A Heartwarming Visit to Field House
Residents and Staff at Field House enjoyed a truly special moment when members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Association visited the home with thoughtful gifts and warm wishes for the New Year.
The group arrived with beautifully prepared fruit and chocolate gifts for our residents and staff, a gesture that brought big smiles and heartfelt appreciation from everyone. Their kindness and generosity created a lovely atmosphere throughout the home.
Moments like these remind us of the power of community connection and the joy it brings to our residents.
Beautiful Amaryllis Donations Brighten Field House
Field House received a wonderful surprise this week with the generous donation of Amaryllis plants for both residents and staff. These striking flowers, known for their tall stems and vibrant blooms, brought excitement and smiles throughout the home.
Our staff spent time doing 1:1 visits in residents’ rooms and planted some in staff room also, giving everyone the chance to admire their new plants up close and learn how we’ll care for them in the weeks ahead. The residents enjoyed the calm, personal interaction — and many shared fond memories of gardening and growing flowers in the past.
Now, we wait together with anticipation as our Amaryllis plants begin their journey from bulbs to full, colourful blossoms. Over the coming weeks, residents and staff will be watching them grow day by day, bringing a sense of routine, joy, and purpose to winter days.
A Night to Remember: Well‑Being Team Goes the Extra Mile
The well-being team never leaves any stone unturned when it comes to fulfilling the wishes of our residents — and this week was a perfect example of that dedication in action.
One of our residents wished for a special night out to watch the Liverpool match at the pub, and our incredible staff made it happen with enthusiasm, care, and a whole lot of heart.
The resident was joined by their brother and a close friend, making the evening even more meaningful. The atmosphere was full of excitement, cheering, and shared memories as they enjoyed the game together. Staff were right there supporting every step of the way, ensuring the resident felt comfortable, included, and fully part of the experience.

Very Special Moment for Bristol Care Homes – Glebe House Shines on ITV’s This Morning
Bristol’s care community is celebrating a truly heart‑warming milestone, as Glebe House was recently featured on ITV’s This Morning alongside presenter Josie Gibson. The appearance highlighted the powerful impact of intergenerational work taking place across Bristol care homes — and Glebe House’s involvement has been nothing short of inspiring.
At the centre of this celebration is the Lullaby Mother and Baby Group, an initiative created by Alive Activities. Over recent months, Glebe House has been privileged to host these uplifting sessions, which bring together mothers, their babies, and care home residents in a shared space of warmth, joy, and connection.
What began as a simple idea — to reduce loneliness and strengthen community bonds — has grown into a beautiful tradition within the home. Residents have enjoyed watching the babies grow, forming gentle friendships with families who now feel like part of the wider Glebe House community.
Seeing this programme recognised on national television was a proud moment for everyone involved. It highlighted not only the meaningful relationships being nurtured at Glebe House, but also the broader commitment within Bristol Care Homes to create opportunities that enrich resident well-being and foster genuine human connection.
Review Of The Month
Dad went out locally for a curry, which he enjoyed, and is going to the garden at Whitminster. He is enjoying a busy social life, and his mood is good.
Everyone is very helpful and engaged with him and his interests. This gives us all peace of mind that he is being cared for in the best way.
– Kay C (Daughter of Resident)
