Glebe House Care Home

It’s been a great month at Glebe House.

Ken hosted an excellent Men’s club discussion about holidays and countries around the world. Shannon and It Takes Two provided entertainment, and both performances left the residents feeling uplifted.

There was a walking group to the local pub, an arts and crafts group, and a cheese and wine afternoon that everyone thoroughly loved.

Richard and Rosemary, musicians who provide complimentary entertainment for the residents, brought along several friends, including a 14-year-old boy who played the piano for the residents.

Residents and staff celebrated a Spanish-themed day at the home. Marius and Duan prepared a Spanish special featuring a large paella dish, chicken king prawns, mussels, squid in batter, crackers, and bread with anchovies, to name a few. The residents enjoyed tasting the food, though Rita wished there was a note inside the mussel shell.

The music and decorations gave off a strong Spanish vibe. Special thanks to Marius, Duan, and the kitchen team for their wonderful and varied contributions to the impact made today.

Residents also had a fantastic performance by ballroom dancers Terry and Jenny, who put on a wonderful show. Former ballroom dancer Mandy’s father was invited along as he used to socialize with the married couple. Mandy is our Activities/Care Assistant.

The residents and senior carer Sharon danced a lot. It was a wonderful atmosphere.

Another activity was a walk to the village with a stop-off at the Bowl Inn. Damien, a singer and musician, entertained the residents in bed. As the sun was shining, residents gathered in the garden to listen to music.

What a terrific month.

Quarry House

Congratulations to John, Sharon, Joseph and Stella on their in-house promotions. We are looking forward to supporting each of them on their continued progression in these roles within the home which will enable us to enhance the care and support both residents and staff receive at Quarry House.

The first Singing for the Brain session will be held at Quarry House on 25th September and a second session is planned for 9th October at Glebe House. We are looking at hosting these sessions and are very excited although a little nervous.

Care & Support West Care Awards 2024 Finalist ceremony is September 26th. We wish all of the finalists the best of luck and look forward to reporting back to you all in the October newsletter with the outcome of the evening.

A big thanks to Marcia Ellington our Social Engagement & Well-being Manager for securing two free tickets for a resident and his daughter to attend an orchestral event as part of the BBC 2024 Proms World’s Greatest Classical Music Festival at the Bristol Beacon.

Field House

Our residents and staff at Field House had a magical month.

Margaret came with a group of friends from the local church to hold a communion service. The residents really enjoy singing the hymns, as they bring back so many memories, however, it’s the social side after the service, which is so lovely. It really has a community feel.

Residents also had fun in the garden with the Octoband, and another day with a visit from a Ukelele band.

Residents from Beech House and Field House, sister homes, joined in on an enjoyable afternoon of silent disco. Even if you just want to watch it, we strongly recommend going to a silent disco if you have never been to one.

Mark interacted with the dancing crowd as music played from the 1950s to the present on the headsets.

A wonderful atmosphere was created, and singing could be heard throughout the home. Family members were pleasantly surprised to find their mother dancing and singing; they couldn’t help but join in and share the moment with their loving mother.

Special thanks to Mark for making the afternoon so enjoyable, and to the staff and residents for participating.

The residents are looking forward to a Silent Disco Christmas Special in December.

Beech House

Residents at Beech House have been living ‘the good life’ this month.

Whilst enjoying a coffee in the garden residents decided to pick the first runner beans. Gill took them to the kitchen and our wonderful chef Hany cooked them for lunch.

Everyone enjoyed their homegrown beans. Later they harvested shallots which will be pickled and eaten with a fish and chip supper.

Claire delivered a fun presentation about the Bristol Balloon Fiesta. There were lots of stories shared about visits and sightings of balloons. It was lovely to reminisce about a fun part of Bristol’s heritage. Uplifting!

Methab hosted a coffee morning and distributed frothy coffee with chocolate sprinkles on top. Residents were chatting with each other, fussing over Phoebe the cat, and listening to Nat King Cole tunes.

A resident had a visit from her granddaughter, and they shared a lovely moment catching up in the conservatory.

Residents also had a wonderful afternoon as they met up outside for a gardening session. They had fun emptying their potato sack searching the compost for potatoes and were delighted with the results. More runner beans were picked and tomato plants trimmed off some leaves to encourage the fruit to ripen. It was so refreshing to take in the fresh air and enjoy the lovely garden.

After clearing up, tea and cake were enjoyed and the produce was taken to the kitchen with a promise from chef Hany to serve the beans and potatoes for lunch tomorrow. Great to see the results of all the hard work put in by everyone. Well done.

Review Of The Month – Field House

What a wonderful place. You can feel the warm welcome and care as soon as you arrive. Dad has dementia, but has been treated with dignity and respect and involved in his care since day one.

Everyone has made every effort to get to know him, his likes and dislikes and to make him as comfortable and content as possible. Dad likes people around him, so the carers and activities ladies have encouraged, supported and involved him with all the daily activities and also visits to interesting places in their minibus.

The carers will sit and talk, read or look at his photo albums to keep him engaged. Everyone who works there will speak to the residents by name as they pass.

The management is fully approachable and open to suggestions and visitors are always made welcome with their open-door policy.

We are so glad we found Quarry House and fully recommend it to others.
