February has been a month full of heartwarming moments, cultural celebrations, and creative fun at Beech House! From shared passions bringing residents and staff closer together to festive feasts and artistic expressions, there’s always something special happening in our home.

❤️ A Shared Passion Brings Joy
There’s something truly special about the bonds formed between our residents and staff. Recently, Lauren and Naz discovered a shared passion for gymnastics – a sport that played a meaningful role in both their lives. As they reminisced, Lauren showed Naz videos of her past performances, bringing back fond memories and lighting up Naz’s face with a smile. It was a heartwarming reminder of the power of connection and shared experiences. ❤️
🇨🇳🐍 Chinese New Year Celebrations!
Residents at Beech House marked the occasion in style with a delicious Chinese takeaway, each choosing their favourite dishes from the menu. The festivities continued with a beautiful slideshow by Zoe, exploring the traditions of Chinese New Year and the meaning behind each zodiac animal. Meanwhile, the front lounge came alive with the sights and sounds of the dragon dance on the big screen. It was a fantastic evening filled with culture, laughter, and celebration! 🎉
🥞 Flipping Fun on National Crêpe Day!
Lauren captured some wonderful moments as Beech House celebrated National Crêpe Day! With help from residents, families, and carers, she whipped up delicious pancakes and served them from the sweet treat trolley. Jean described her crêpe as “utterly delicious” while Gerald enjoyed watching them being made and chatting with Lauren about the process.
🎨 Love is in the Air!
Our residents also got creative with a new February window display, crafting beautiful Valentine’s-themed hot air balloons with glitter, glue, and paint. The home is looking extra lovely as we welcome the month of love! 💕
Thank you to everyone who makes Beech House such a warm and joyful place to be! 🥰
At Glebe, we love creating unforgettable experiences for our residents, and this was one to remember!
Chris, a passionate sports fan, had the chance to attend an exhilarating basketball match between the Bristol Flyers and Dinamo Bucharest. With the support of our amazing staff, it turned into a truly special evening filled with excitement, connection, and joy.
🏀 A Night at the Basketball – Making a Difference 🌟
Two of Glebe’s staff had the wonderful opportunity to support Chris, one of our residents, in attending a thrilling basketball game between the Bristol Flyers and Dinamo Bucharest. When Elena, originally from Romania, found out that the visiting team was the one her son used to play for, she jumped at the opportunity to accompany Chris on this outing.
A Dream Come True for a Sports Enthusiast ⚽🏏
Chris, a lifelong sports enthusiast, has always held a special fondness for basketball, alongside other sports such as football and cricket. He had recently mentioned to us that he would like to attend a game; we felt that this was something we could definitely make happen.
Despite his recent limitations in mobility, his enthusiasm for the sport has never wavered. When we mentioned the idea of attending a live game, his eyes lit up with excitement, and the tickets were purchased immediately.

Courtside Experience & Unforgettable Atmosphere 🎟️👏
We were able to secure courtside seats, allowing Chris to fully immerse himself in the atmosphere—the crowd’s cheering, the intensity of the game, and the incredible skill of the athletes. The staff at the Flyers’ home venue were incredibly welcoming, offering assistance to make Chris’ experience as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
Upon entering the arena, the energy was electric. Chris’ face beamed as he took in the bright jerseys, and the focused expressions of the players, and listened to the game commentary provided by Elena.
An Edge-of-Your-Seat Showdown! 🔥⛹️♂️
The game itself was a nail-biter, with both teams displaying exceptional skill and determination. The Flyers started strong, but Dinamo Bucharest quickly matched their intensity, making for an edge-of-your-seat showdown. At the buzzer of the fourth quarter, the Flyers triumphed with a 76–58 victory!
Chris’ enthusiasm was contagious – he cheered passionately for every point scored, clapped along with the crowd, and soaked in every moment of the match.
A VIP Surprise at the End 🤩📸
At the end of the game, Nadia and Elena were approached by some of the Flyers players, who kindly offered to take a photo with Chris. They stayed to chat with him, thanking him for coming. Elena, not wanting to cause any confusion, made sure to let the players know she was actually supporting Dinamo Bucharest – cue plenty of laughter!
This thoughtful gesture from the players brought an enormous smile to Chris’ face as he fist-bumped his way down the line.
The Power of Sport & Inclusion ❤️
What a fantastic evening – a core memory for Chris and a beautiful reminder of how powerful inclusion in sport can be. It’s experiences like these that bring people together and create lasting joy.
And the best part? Only a few more months to wait until we do it all over again – this time, at the cricket! 🏏🎉
🍏 A Fresh Start to the New Year – Staff Fruit Week at Quarry House! 🍊
At Quarry House, we kicked off the year with a simple yet meaningful initiative – Staff Fruit Week! From 13th to 19th January, free fruit was available for all staff as a way to promote healthy eating and show our appreciation for the incredible work you do.

The response has been fantastic, with both day staff and night staff enjoying the fresh selection. Some of our favourite comments included:
🍏 “It’s very nice – I like apples!”
🍊 “I had an orange yesterday, it was very sweet!”
🍫 “I’ve eaten too many chocolates over Christmas—now it’s time to stop, so it’s nice to have fruit instead!”
It has been lovely to see so many smiles as staff grabbed a healthy snack from the fruit basket—a small but uplifting pick-me-up for the January blues. After all, we all need a little boost this time of year! 😊💙
🎉 Celebrating Excellence – Congratulations, Sarah! 🏆
A huge congratulations to Sarah Johannes, our incredible Nurse Associate at Quarry House, for winning The Social Care Nurse Award at the South West Great British Care Awards! 🎉👏
Our CEO, Rich Crocker, proudly presented this prestigious award, recognising Sarah’s dedication, compassion, and outstanding contribution to care. 🌟
But the excitement doesn’t stop there – Sarah is now a finalist for the National Great British Care Awards, representing Bristol Care Homes on a national stage! 💙🏅
Let’s all celebrate Sarah and the Quarry House team for their amazing work! 🥂🎊
📸 A Month of Friendship, Fun & Fantastic Entertainment at Field House!
We love sharing the special moments that make our homes such warm and vibrant places to live and work! This month, Field House has been full of music, laughter, and friendship, and we’re excited to give you a glimpse into the joy that’s been shared. 😊🎶
🎤 A Musical Treat with Shannon & John!
Field House residents were entertained in style by the fabulous Shannon, whose beautiful voice captivated both residents and visiting family members. 🎶💃 Her performance, themed around Burns Night, featured Scottish classics that had everyone reminiscing and joining in. But Shannon doesn’t just sing – she brings music to life through movement and storytelling, creating an interactive experience that leaves everyone feeling uplifted (and a little exhausted by the end!). 😅
Another crowd favourite this week was John, an entertainer who combines music, humour, and storytelling – a talent he honed while busking in Belgium. 🎸🎭 His well-loved songs had everyone singing along, whether they were in a serious or silly mood. And let’s just say, the reaction to The Laughing Policeman was absolutely priceless! 😂👮♂️

💛 The Power of Friendship
Field House has also been all about building connections. Walking through the home, it’s been heartwarming to see residents chatting over a cup of tea, staff sharing moments of laughter, and friendships blossoming.
One special friendship has been life-changing for two of our residents. Thanks to their new bond, one resident has gained confidence, started sitting in the dining room, and is now joining in activities – always with a big smile! 😊💖
To bring even more joy, we launched a little craft club – giving residents the chance to get creative together, exchange ideas, and enjoy some lovely companionship. 🎨✨
🎻 Music, Stories & Laughter
The home was also treated to some brilliant entertainment from Laurence, who enchanted everyone with his violin skills, and Phil, who kept residents intrigued with music, stories, and plenty of laughs! 🥰
☕️ A Special Outing for Dympna!
A one-to-one outing made this week extra special for Dympna, who took a lovely trip with our minibus driver, Carly. 🚌 They headed to Tesco, where Dympna enjoyed a Costa coffee and biscuits while chatting away. She shared how much she used to love shopping there, and the trip brought back many happy memories. She had a wonderful time and truly appreciated the chance to get out and about! ☕️🍪😊
What a fantastic month at Field House! It’s moments like these that remind us of the power of connection, the joy of music, and the happiness that friendship brings. 💙✨
