🌍 November Learning Board: Focus on Kindness

Our November Learning Board is all about Kindness, in line with World Kindness Day. 💛

We’ve included the CQC Caring and Kindness Framework Statement, reminding us that kindness is at the heart of outstanding care. This month, our team is reflecting on what kindness means in everyday practice – from small gestures to creating a culture of compassion and respect.

Kindness isn’t just an action; it’s a value that shapes how we care for residents, support colleagues, and engage with our community. Together, we’re committed to making Quarry House a place where kindness truly shines.

We have also celebrated World Kindness Day in a special way.

Management surprised staff with lovely notebooks and stickers – a thoughtful gesture that was deeply appreciated. ✨ Stunning bouquets of flowers 💐 were also gifted and shared among residents, visitors, and staff, spreading joy throughout the home.

🧠💚 World Mental Health Day at Field House

At Field House, we marked World Mental Health Day with a thoughtful and uplifting initiative.

Throughout the day, staff and residents shared kind words, advice for when someone feels overwhelmed, happy memories, positive quotes, and messages of encouragement. These were pinned to the board, creating a space filled with hope and positivity for everyone to read. 💌

To show appreciation, Field House handed out mental health awareness badges 🎗️ and treated everyone to delicious pastries 🥐 as a thank you for taking part.

This simple gesture sparked conversations, smiles, and a sense of community – reminding us that mental health matters every day.

🌺 A Beautiful Remembrance Wreath at Beech House

We feel incredibly grateful at Beech House to have this stunning wreath adorning our front door for Remembrance Day. ❤️

The wreath is extra special because the poppies were lovingly knitted by Debbie, the daughter of our dear resident, Dot. We felt these beautiful handmade poppies deserved to be admired, so we arranged them into a wreath for everyone to enjoy.

A huge thank you to Debbie for your thoughtful and creative gift, and for allowing us to display it proudly as we honour and remember those who served.

💛Happy Memories: Honouring Gerald at Beech House

At Beech House, residents and staff gathered in the garden to remember Gerald, who sadly passed away in July.

Gerald was a kind and gentle man, well-loved in our home for his wonderful way of bringing people together – often by playing his treasured vinyl records for friends. 🎶

To honour his memory, Gerald’s family kindly donated a cherry tree, and this morning his daughter-in-law Jackie visited to plant it along with spring bulbs 🌸. A plaque was placed beside the tree, creating a special spot where we can pause and remember him.

We look forward to seeing the beautiful blossoms in spring – a lasting tribute to a man who brought so much joy to our home. 💛

🎀 Beech House Supports Children in Need!

Our amazing staff and management are showing their support for Children in Need by wearing polka dots or pyjamas! 🐻✨ It’s all part of our effort to help raise funds for this important cause that makes a real difference to children and families across the UK.

The fun doesn’t stop there – this evening, residents and staff will come together to watch the Children in Need broadcast on BBC One 📺, sharing in the excitement and community spirit of this wonderful event.

A big thank you to everyone taking part and helping us make a positive impact. Together, we can make a difference! 💛

🌟 Glebe House Celebrates Carers’ Day – Honouring Our Everyday Heroes 🌟

A special occasion at Glebe House: Carers’ Day – a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate the extraordinary individuals who make this home not just function, but flourish.

And those remarkable people are you – our dedicated carers.

Choosing a career in care is no small decision. It is a vocation that demands resilience, compassion, and unwavering commitment. It is often undervalued in society, yet you show up every single day with heart and purpose. You chose this path not because it is easy, but because what matters most to you cannot be measured in pounds and pence: providing dignified, meaningful care for the elderly.

This is something money cannot buy. It comes from a place of humanity, empathy, and genuine kindness.

We are immensely proud of each and every one of you – proud of your patience, your gentleness, your humour, and your strength. Proud of the way you support not only our residents but their families – and each other. Even on the toughest days, you carry on with grace and professionalism.

We are also deeply grateful. Grateful for the comfort you bring, the dignity you protect, the smiles you create, and the countless small moments of joy that often go unseen but never go unfelt. You are the beating heart of Glebe House. You are the reason this home is warm, welcoming, and thriving.

Today, we celebrate you. Thank you for everything you do.

🤝 Glebe House Plans Intergenerational Programme with Tockington Manor School

We’re excited to share that Karla from Administration and Tracy from Activities recently visited Tockington Manor School to plan a wonderful intergenerational programme for our residents at Glebe House and the children at Tockington.

The aim of this initiative is to create opportunities for both generations to come together and share meaningful experiences. Planned activities include craft sessions, nativity shows, and regular visits during special occasions such as sports days and other school events.

The team at Tockington Manor were incredibly welcoming, and it was a pleasure to meet their management and discuss ideas that will bring joy, learning, and connection to both our residents and the pupils.

We believe these interactions will not only brighten days but also foster friendships and understanding across generations. Watch this space for updates as we bring this exciting programme to life!

🇬🇧✨ Honouring Remembrance at Glebe House

At Glebe House, residents and staff gathered in the main lounge and across the home to observe the two-minute silence 🕊️, paying tribute to those who served and sacrificed.

It was a truly moving moment of reflection, made even more special by our Deputy Manager, Nathan, who proudly wore his army badges and cap 🎖️🪖.

Nathan shared stories from his time in the forces, giving residents a chance to learn more about his experiences and the significance of this day.

The atmosphere was one of respect and gratitude 🙏, reminding us of the importance of remembering and honouring those who gave so much for our freedom.

🎉 A Bittersweet Farewell to John at Glebe House

We marked a very special – and bittersweet – occasion at Glebe House as we said goodbye to John, who has been taking services here for an incredible 18 years.

We have always been delighted to welcome John, and today was no exception, though it was tinged with sadness as we bid him farewell. He was truly taken aback when an afternoon tea trolley rolled in, complete with thoughtful gifts 🎁 and delicious treats 🍰.

The highlight of the day was seeing Christine present the gifts to John – a touching moment between two friends who have shared over 20 years of friendship. 💕

It was a day filled with smiles, memories, and heartfelt gratitude for everything John has brought to our home. We wish him all the very best for the future and thank him for his years of dedication and warmth.

From lively music and dancing to creative craft sessions and even a sparkly trampoline activity, every moment was designed to bring joy and connection. Homes were beautifully decorated with sparkling banners and bows, and residents enjoyed making glittering creations for display, adding a personal touch to the celebration.

We were delighted to welcome Sarah from Brain Tumour Support, whose presence made the day even more meaningful. Her visit reminded us why events like Sparkle Day matter – they help raise awareness, show solidarity, and bring hope to those affected by brain tumours.

Review Of The Month – Field House

“Field House is a credit to staff, management, carers, cleaners, activity and maintenance teams, and gardeners. The gardens and plants are outstanding, and the home is spotless and incredibly welcoming. Everyone is approachable, kind, and truly caring.

The way my mum’s eyes lit up when carers and staff entered her spotless room was such a comfort to us. There are wonderful activities and day trips, bringing joy and stimulation to residents.

Visiting at Christmas was magical — the decorations were outstanding, and Christmas Day was full of fun. Mum was treated with love and dignity right to the very end, and we are deeply grateful.

Thank you, Field House — you are all amazing.”
