A Fresh New Look for the Garden at Quarry House

On 11th July, Quarry House residents celebrated the grand opening of the beautifully revamped garden, joined by friends from Quarry Court, who came along to mark the special occasion.

The garden has been transformed with a brand-new all-purpose patio, perfect for al fresco dining, games, and entertainment throughout the year. By reclaiming some unused land, we’ve also created more open space, and the addition of wooden planter boxes brings a fresh and vibrant feel to the area.

We’re absolutely delighted with the result. This lovely new space will bring enjoyment, relaxation, and a great setting for a variety of activities – whatever the day may hold!

Farewell to Sean from Maintenance

It was a sad moment at Quarry House as we said farewell to Sean from the Maintenance team. Sean has been a dedicated and much-appreciated member of staff, always ready to help with a smile. His hard work and cheerful presence will be missed by all. We wish Sean all the very best for the future and thank him for everything he’s done during his time with us.

Smarties Challenge at Quarry House

Staff and visitors are invited to take part in our Smarties Challenge. The idea is simple: enjoy a tube of Smarties on us, then refill the empty tube with 20p coins. Ask friends and family to help – they won’t mind!

Once your tube is full, seal it up and return it to the fundraising pot at Quarry House. It’s a fun way to get involved and support our ongoing charitable efforts.

Let’s see how many full tubes we can collect – and thank you for your generosity!

Focusing on Food Hygiene Standards

This month, our Learning Board zeroes in on Food Hygiene Standards, vital for ensuring the health and safety of our team and residents. We’re chuffed to share that Mihaela, our brilliant Head Chef, led an engaging session brimming with practical insights to keep our kitchen operations top-notch.

A Fresh New Space for Our Amazing Staff

We’re delighted to share that the staff room at Field House has been fully refurbished – a well-deserved treat for our amazing team!

The new space offers a brighter, more comfortable area for staff to relax, recharge, and enjoy their breaks. It’s our small way of saying thank you for the incredible care and dedication they show every day.

Here’s to many well-earned tea breaks in the lovely new surroundings!

Sunny Smiles for Sunglasses Day!

Field House was full of fun and flair as residents and staff celebrated Sunglasses Day in style!

Everyone joined in the spirit of the day by donning their favourite shades – from classic styles to colourful and quirky frames. Laughter filled the air as residents posed for photos, enjoyed music, and shared stories of summers past.

It was a light-hearted celebration that brought lots of smiles and a real sense of togetherness. A big thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the day so special!

Welcome, Sam, to Field House!

We’re delighted to welcome Sam to the Field House team!
Sam, who many will know from the Activities Team at Quarry House, has now joined us as our new Minibus Carer.

With her friendly nature and great rapport with residents, Sam brings both experience and enthusiasm to his new role.

We’re thrilled to have her on board and look forward to many safe and enjoyable outings ahead!

Field House Celebrates Pride in Bristol

Residents and staff from Field House proudly took part in this year’s Pride in Bristol, joining the celebrations to show support, love, and unity for the LGBTQ+ community.

Dressed in bright colours and waving flags, our group embraced the joyful atmosphere, sharing in the music, laughter, and powerful messages of inclusion and acceptance. It was a truly uplifting day that reflected the values we hold dear at Field House – respect, equality, and community.

We’re proud to have been part of such an inspiring event and look forward to continuing to stand together in celebration and solidarity.

Congratulations to Kingsley, Our New Team Leader!

We’re chuffed to bits to share that Kingsley has been promoted to Team Leader at Beech House! Over the past year, Kingsley has grown in confidence, shown cracking leadership skills, and stayed proactive in his role, all while keeping a smile on his face.

Well done, Kingsley, for stepping up and leading with positivity! We’re excited to see you shine in your new role!

Ice Cream Van Sweetens the Day!

Our Beech House team recently enjoyed a cracking treat when the ice cream van paid us a visit! Our dedicated staff joined residents out front, picking their favourite frozen treats and basking in the sunshine.

The occasion brought back fond memories, with many team members sharing stories of seaside holidays and childhood summers by the beach. With beaming smiles and a few sticky fingers, our staff made this sweet day one to remember, strengthening bonds and spreading joy.

Cheerio and Best Wishes to Our Brilliant Bridget!

We recently said a heartfelt goodbye to our wonderful Senior Carer, Bridget, who’s off to start an exciting new chapter as a nurse after earning her pin! Bridget’s care and dedication have been invaluable at Beech House, and her warmth will be sorely missed. We’re all rooting for you, Bridget, in your new nursing adventure!

Our Wish Tree Brings Us Together!

We’re delighted to share that our Wish Tree is now blooming in the garden, adorned with heartfelt wishes from our residents and staff! With yellow ribbons ready for more wishes to be added, this beautiful tree is a symbol of our Beech House family coming together. Pop by the garden to add your wish and be part of this special tradition that strengthens our community spirit!

Summer Event a Smashing Success!

Our Glebe House Summer Event was a roaring triumph, filled with joy, laughter, and community spirit!

A massive thank you to everyone who joined us – we hope you had a blast and can’t wait to welcome you back next year!

Huge kudos to our incredible staff, whose tireless efforts before, during, and after the event made it all possible. Your hard work truly shone through! A special cheer for our fantastic entertainers, Wizard Gerry and Jazz Junction, who kept the vibes high and smiles wide. Big thanks also to our wonderful stall holders and generous donors who supported Macmillan Cancer Support –your kindness makes a real impact.

Splashing Success at Our Team-Building Day!

Our latest team-building adventure was a wet and wild success! This time, we swapped uniforms for swimwear and hit Bristol Harbour for a day of paddleboarding under the sun. With high spirits (and a touch of nerves), we balanced on boards, braved the waves, and embraced a few “enthusiastic” tumbles into the water—some with a cheeky nudge from teammates!

While our land-loving colleagues cheered from the shore, we all regrouped for food, drinks, and plenty of laughs.

Jo’s Incredible 10K Run for Lily!

We’re bursting with pride for our amazing nurse, Jo, who laced up her trainers and ran a 10K marathon to raise funds for an inspiring cause! Jo’s efforts supported a GoFundMe campaign for Lily, a brave young girl who lost all her limbs due to sepsis. Jo’s determination and big heart shone through as she pounded the pavement to help Lily’s journey.

You can support Lily’s cause by donating at the GoFundMe Link.

A Floral Surprise for Elena!

We’re thrilled to share a heartwarming moment from Glebe House! Our valued team member, Elena, was recently surprised with a beautiful bouquet of flowers from a grateful relative. Tucked inside was a card that read, “Thank you for everything you do.”

“Elena’s a true star, and this lovely gesture shows the impact she has on our residents and their families,” says Natalia.

Cheers, Elena, for your amazing work – the flowers are well deserved!

Nathan, Our Ironman Hero!

This month, we celebrate Nathan, Glebe House’s Deputy Manager, who conquered the Ironman – a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and 26.2-mile marathon!

The Challenge

Nathan’s Ironman journey began with a dare from his sister, who doubted he could do it. Despite having no prior triathlon experience or even owning a bike, he signed up to prove her wrong, training 14–16 hours weekly while balancing his demanding role.

Team Support

The Bristol Care Homes team, especially Natalia, was Nathan’s backbone, making sure he stayed fueled and motivated. Their support made the gruelling months of training manageable.

Race Day Grit

Illness nearly sidelined Nathan just before the race, but encouragement from his family pushed him to attempt the swim. Feeling revived, he tackled the bike and marathon, drawing on his military mindset:
“Just keep moving.”
Against all odds, he crossed the finish line!

Nathan’s Advice

Anything is possible with time, effort, and accountability,” Nathan says, inspired by the mantra,
“If I can, I will,”
and Proverbs 4:11–12:
“When I run, I will not fall.”

Review Of The Month – Field House

My mum was a resident at Field House for 4 years. She loved all of the staff and was very happy in the last years of her life. Mum was looked after with so much care and compassion, not only by the nursing/care staff but by all of the staff.

The family was also cared for by the home, especially in the last days. We were given food, drink, and so much support. We will never forget Field House and all of its staff.
