On 1st September, Bristol Care Homes launched its first Sustainability Champions Training at Quarry House – a big thank you to the Quarry House team for hosting this important event. This marks the start of a new programme across all four of our homes, where dedicated Champions will lead the way in making our care homes more sustainable while keeping resident care at the heart of everything we do.
What the Training Covered
The training, led by our Sustainability Manager, Enock, gave our Champions the tools and knowledge to make a real difference in sustainable care homes. Key areas included:
- Sustainability in healthcare – how greener practices mean safer, healthier homes and stronger compliance with the Care Quality Commission.
- The role of a Champion – taking ownership, inspiring colleagues, and acting as a go-to person for advice and ideas.
- Priority areas for action – energy efficiency, waste reduction, water savings, sustainable food choices, and cutting unnecessary travel.
- Planning next steps – setting monthly pledges to create visible improvements in each home.
Our Champions will also meet monthly via MS Teams to share progress and keep momentum strong.

What’s Next
This programme is about empowering our people as change agents for Bristol Care Homes’ sustainability – making greener choices part of everyday life while continuing to provide the very best care for residents.
Together, we can reduce our environmental footprint, improve wellbeing, and show that green healthcare is possible and practical in care homes.
If you have any questions about our sustainability plans and actions, please do not hesitate to contact our Bristol Care Homes team.
