Great activities at Bristol Care Homes
Here at Bristol Care Homes, our residents’ quality of life is one of our most important values. This is why, every month we are planning a rich programme of activities for everyone in our homes. Most of the ideas come from our residents, but quite often we also receive suggestions from organisations who really want to make a difference in the lives of our elder generation.
The Sound Voice programme
One of these organisations is Sound Voice which is supporting a wonderful project that explores peoples’ experience of movement and identity through artistic engagements. The name of this research programme is “The robot in me” and it is commissioned by emPOWER.
emPOWER is a partnership between engineers, clinicians and scientists from Bristol University, University College London, Bath, Bristol Robotics Laboratory, and Sheffield Universities.
The EPSRC-funded research programme “The robot in me” aims to design a map for soft robotics in healthcare by discovering the experience people have through a series of creative engagements with Sing for Joy choirs, Bristol and Bath Parkinson’s UK, and others affected by impaired mobility in hospital and care homes settings.
Quarry House in Fishponds contributes to songwriting
We are proud for our care home Quarry House in Fishponds to be part of this wonderful project. Since June 2023, Quarry House has been working with the Sound Voice team on multiple sessions which resulted in wonderful creations. One of these is “The Air Piano Man” song. Our Bristol Care Homes residents have contributed to writing the lyrics which talk about a pianist remembering the glory of his youthful confidence.

Finally, we, Bristol Care Homes, would like to thank Sound Voice for this opportunity and all our staff for their support of the project.
